Apologies for cross-posting - I thought this event would be of interest to both costumers & faire folk, so I'm posting it in a few tribes.

Costume Con is an annual event that moves around the country (and sometimes goes international) -- this year we are really lucky that it is coming to San Jose (first time in 14 years it's been in California!). For those who like to make costumes, or like to wear them, this is going to be a great venue to learn about costuming, and even more importantly, to socialize with likeminded people! There will be classes, competitions, and tons of social events (and yes, the hotel has a party floor!).

It takes place April 25-28, 2008, so it's coming up in about a month! The cost goes up incrementally every so often - currently a weekend membership is $95 and will be $110 if you buy at the door - so purchase in advance!

Costume-Con 26 welcomes space cadets, living history aficionados, reenactors, textile designers, theater designers, fursuiters, mascots, cosplayers, fantasy costumers, costume professionals and folks who just like to dress up! The convention offers fun and education for all types of costumers, and those who appreciate costumes, such as photographers and artists.

Kevin Roche, master class award winning amateur costumer, is the chair for the convention, and will include his work in the retrospective programming. The historical and science-fiction contests are a major draw, for designers and skilled sewers alike. Fashion designers will find the Parallel Dimensions in Design competitions right up their alley. Mad Science Fair competitors create wild props and gadgets. Topics of workshop interest range from stagecraft to historical tribe design. Not to miss out on the lighter side, convention events include a Victorian Underwear Party and a Mouse-Kerade (costumed stuffed animals parade), as well as a special Doll Exhibit, featuring Japanese jointed dolls.
