Hi Everyone,
I'll keep this short & sweet. I was going through my Faire gear which I keep neatly folded in a storage bin in my closet and was devastated to find that somehow mold had started to grow on my leather shoes & suede bodice. I'm not too concerned about the shoes, they can be replaced, however I'm desperate to hear if anyone has a good solution to cleaning the suede bodice. I'm very loathe to wash it as it could very well destroy the knap of the leather....help please!

Re: Mold + Suede Bodice = Hellllp!
Sat, February 7, 2009 - 2:33 PMOne recommendation is to find a good dry cleaner that handles Leather and let them handle it. It might be expensive but probably is cheaper than replacing the bodice.

Re: Mold + Suede Bodice = Hellllp!
Sun, February 8, 2009 - 3:51 PMI am afraid that there is little hope for your suede bodice. Mold is remarkably difficult to clean and kill. The spores are very resilient and on porous surfaces really dig in. I have used CaviCide by Metrix laboratories and DepHyze by Log 7 Solutions to kill mold. However, for porous surfaces both require a near saturation of the substrate with the solution, almost certainly ruining the suede. The recommendation to consult a professional dry cleaner is probably your best chance.

Sun, February 8, 2009 - 4:07 PMLeatherworking or SCA Leatherworkers tribes. I would say ask there before paying a dry cleaner.
