Bella Donna Venetian Courtesans will be holding auditions in throughout February! We are seeking women who are strong singers (acting/faire experience a plus) and men who are actors (singing ability a plus but not required). We’re also looking for musicians to provide accompaniment during our shows.
We are seek members who are interested in Renaissance history, love performing, and who can commit to weekly rehearsals and scheduled performances. Women will focus primarily on music for the first season, although we may draw on your other talents [acting, dancing] as needed. Men will be active in our scripted stage shows, but are welcome to contribute to improvisation, singing and/or dancing as suits your preference and abilities.
Members must be able to provide their own costume that meets our historical guidelines plus their own transportation to rehearsals and gigs. (Please note that a costume for Bella Donna can be expensive.)
Bella Donna is a small troupe formed in 2003 to portray 16th C. Venetian courtesans at Renaissance faires and private events. We focus on period music, dance, poetry, stage performance and improvisation. At Renaissance faires, we present a 30 min. stage show 2-3 times a day, as well as street performances throughout the day. We pride ourselves on our historically accurate songs, dialogue, and costuming. Rehearsals are Tuesday nights in the East Bay/San Francisco area and we perform throughout Northern California.
